Welcome to Glenn Harvey Pictures.
About me.
I have been working in 'Fleet Street' for more years than I care to remember and have seen many changes in my profession, some good and some not so good. I began working in a photographic news agency making tea and delivering news photos for sale to the National newspapers in Fleet Street, London. I would jump on a train from Guildford to London with a set of the hottest news photos under my arm ready to deliver to 'The Mirror, Sun, Express and Mail' who were all waiting eagerly for my arrival (well the photos I was carrying anyway). I soon got to know the hard-nosed and sometimes intimidating picture editors to a point where they might grunt a 'hello' to me. Pictures delivered it was back to Guildford to wake up the next day to see the pictures spread across the papers. The pictures that I had delivered! Even though all I'd done was deliver them to the picture desks this still gave me a buzz to see them published. Seeing and being a part of the picture production by many of the great photographers of their time gave me something to work towards when it came to my own photography. If just delivering the photos was a thrill what would it be like to actually have my own photos published? I couldn't wait!!!
With my training underway (you never stop learning this business) I left the agency and went freelance. With my Minolta camera and a Metz flashgun I ventured into London to see what I could find to photograph and also make some much needed money. Celebrity and Royal events were the obvious choice as anyone in the right place at the right moment could snap a candid shot and make quick large mint. With a foot in the door in 'Fleet Street' and utilising my new found 'friends' on the picture desks I managed a few very exciting publications and with the accrued money bought more equipment.
I became accredited to Buckingham Palace an specialised in British Royalty at home and abroad. Whenever a Royal tour was underway I was there to photograph it, especially if it was Charles & Diana on the menu. After over 200 tours I decided to try something different and moved into magazine and feature photography, which was a bit tricky at first. Having spent the many years photographing whatever was put in front of me in mainly staged events, now I had to begin to think about how to compose my photos.
Today I remain working with National newspapers, mainly 'The Sun' but am hoping to increase my commercial work, portraiture and family events. I've recently invested in a mobile studio which I am looking forward to using on anyone who gives me a call.
